Prof. Joe Leigh Simpson, USA

Joe Leigh Simpson, MD, FACOG, FACMG, FRCOG, received his undergraduate and medical education at Duke University and postgraduate training at Cornell University Medical College (New York City). Academic positions have included Professor at Northwestern University (1975-1986), Professor and Chairman (Obstetrics and Gynecology) at University of Tennessee, Memphis (1986-1994), Professor and Chairman (Obstetrics and Gynecology) at Baylor College of Medicine (1994- 2006), and Professor and Founding Executive Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM), Florida International University (2007-). Dr. Simpson has contributed to many components of reproductive genetics and prenatal genetic diagnosis, He is certified in Medical Genetics as well as in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has written over 800 articles and chapters. His major books include seven editions of Obstetrics: Normal and Problem Pregnancies and three editions as author for Genetics in Obstetrics and Gynecology. His research has been funded by the National Institute of Health and multiple other agencies. Dr. Simpson has served in leadership roles on many national and international committees and many professional organizations. He has been President of International Federation Fertility Societies, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American College of Medical Genetics, Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis International Society, the International Society of Prenatal Diagnosis, and the Society for Reproduction Investigation. He is a member of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
